If you're not allergic to gold or silver, it might be possible to electroplate a bit on the outside. Dissolve a small amount of gold in aqueous solution and run a charge onto the magnet through the solution. Apparently nickel can cause allergic reactions, and/or decrease immunosensitivity, a.k.a a cold can kill you.

I agree with Thomas. Multiple readings from the same magnetic finger would also serve the same purpose. I believe that's why you see people with these implants waving their hands around things, or in the general direction of things, to get multiple readings.
