  • Perfect! I was hoping to make a trip down there to visit in Jan/Feb anyways to meet face to face. Is there a date for the new meetup? Btw - I'll be driving down from San Francisco. If any grinders in the bay need a lift just send me a PM.
  • There's a good chance that could work out. I'll PM you with details.
  • What part of SoCal? I'll be coming down that way around thanksgiving. Driving down from San Francisco to Northern LA.
  • Professional augmented and virtual reality research engineer. Live and work in San Francisco.
  • Just have to say - love this idea. First tattoo concept that has really resonated with me.
  • Does anyone have experience with moving things around after implantation? I dont want to get to it close to another magnet in case I actually pull it out of the incision, but I feel like it is significantly to deep right now. Do you think it will be moveable after the skin has begun to heal?
  • I agree 100%. I was really amazed at how fine it was. The strength to size ratio was amazing too. I think it will take a little bit of work to find the ideal placement, but as general advice I would definitely lean towards putting it close to the surface.
  • Hi Guys, Don't worry, an autoclave was not used. I'm not sure what he ended up soaking it in, but the magnet was suspended in some sort of goo for about half an hour before implantation. Unfortunately the magnets arrived yesterday, a couple of hours before Brian was leaving, so we did not have time to soak them overnight.…
  • Hi Amal, thanks for shipping those so quickly. They arrived just in time. I got mine implanted today. How long did it take you guys before you were able to feel anything? With Deckers cylinders I was able to get minor sensations the first day, with fluctuations as the magnet healed. While the strength of the magnet outside…
  • Another thing to keep in mind is the location. Having an implant somewhere on the arm may be confusing if it is a passive haptic sense. Your hands/arms change positions all the time and often are out of sync with the direction you are actually facing. I spoke with the designer of the southpaw recently (the ankle mounted…
  • Ok. how does the strength compare? Is sensitivity going to be on the same level, or are strength and sensitivity directly correlated? I currently have an the cylinder in my ring finger, so the m31 will be index. Even if its not as powerful thats ok, the smaller footprint will be worth it on a dominant finger. The cylinder…
  • Hi guys, Thanks a ton for putting all the work into this. Just ordered several for me + friends. I have one of Brian Deckers older cylinder magnets so I am looking forward to comparing it. @amal, why the wrist location? Are there advantages to having it there that the fingers don't have?
  • What is the current timeline for the magnets? My appointment is early september. Would it be possible to get a couple before then?
  • How good are these new magnets? I have a cylinder one from Brian Decker and I am very happy with it. I can lift up spoons/forks and have a decent range for sensing things. I was planning on getting the same for my second one - but would love to use something developed by the community if its comparable.
  • I'm in the same boat actually - considering getting a second one at the end of august and have been considering location. Any thoughts are welcome.
  • Hi, I'm mostly a mobile developer, but I have a background in web design and development. If we need an extra hand to implement some of this stuff I would be able to volunteer some time.

  • I can up my contribution to $100, but unfortunately will need to wait until the 1st before being able to send the money.
  • Stumbled across this the other day - same concept but without the need of a 3d Printer. However, you need to have access to some real person's finger prints http://dasalte.ccc.de/biometrie/fingerabdruck_kopieren.en

  • I'm awaiting a deposit into my paypall account of $75. Once that comes in I'll forward that to you.
  • I posted in the other thread - but just adding it here as well. Happy to chip my $60.
  • Well I don't have anything to compare it to, but I am quite happy with the EMF sensation. Mine is a little bit low, near the joint - I think it would be a little more sensitive higher up, but more likely to get in the way too. As far as the movement thing goes - its just way easier to touch the outside part of your finger…

  • I have the same - 1/4" cylinder in the left ring finger and I'm very happy with the placement. Its off center on the pinky side of the fingerpad and I haven't had any difficulty with it. I would recommend having it offset like this - it makes it much easier to play with the magnet IE picking things up off the desk etc. If…

  • Interesting thought. I'm down to chip in $50 if there is enough support.

  • I was out of town this weekend and missed the conference. How did it go? I see theres another one coming up in a month, would it be worth checking out?
  • I live in the bay area. I have a couch I can offer if someone needs it. Looking forward to meeting some people face to face.
  • @ glims I completely agree. If someone came to the biohacking community and said that there was something that - with only four hours of maintenance a week they could add years to their life, improve their strength and endurance, fine tune the senses on top of making them more attractive and confident - people would jump…
  • Out of curiosity, what kind of data do you expect to be getting from the EEG readers? I wasn't aware that you could get useful info about vision from them. Are you using them in combination with some other sensors?
  • Awesome, glad to see this actually happening. I am really curious about the practicality of this project. Pledged $50.
  • Sounds fascinating - biology has always been one of my weak points though. Can anyone give some more examples of near future biology biohacks? The scent one sounds interesting, but I'm sure there are tons more that are within our reach.
  • @zombiegristle Realistically it depends on the kind of device you are implanting. If we are talking about finger magnets its obviously irrelevant, but I can think of a dozen proposed projects that could be compromised. A good RL example of this would be the vulnerabilities shown in pacemakers, allowing advanced hackers…
