  • @Birdhandz on first read of your comment I thought you meant that you would find a chicken leg with a v2 implanted useful as a flashlight lol @AlexSmith those look amazing, and I'll definitely be buying one once the anti-migration coating is added.
  • I took a look at it again today, and there was originally a very shallow pit on the magnet which I didn't think too much of since it was so shallow and was also covered by the coating. But since I can't find that pit now, it looks like it failed in that area. Here's a better pic of the magnet: http://imgur.com/Y67wqiG
  • I'm positive. My phone doesn't like to take good pictures of something as small as the magnet, but this is from a picture right after I removed it. This is exactly how it came out. The dark spot was on the far side of the incision, and on the edge of the magnet towards the tip of the place you can see the large section…
  • Hey all, I should probably post an update. I was one of the testers who got a magnet from Alex. After I received it I gave it a quick visual visual inspection, I went ahead and got it implanted in my right pinky on October 9th. The incision didn't really heal well and over the next couple weeks the skin was dry and the…
  • I can't give you a direct comparison like you want, but someone else on the forums might be able to. I got 2 3x5mm parylene cylinders from Decker, one in each ring finger. They're pretty sensitive and great for lifting, but are in the pads of my fingers and need some care when doing heavy lifting or other work. The 2 m31s…
  • Email will work best with Brian, in my experience. He travels sometimes so give him a week or so to reply. He'll also likely want you to make an appointment and pay some part of the procedure up front. The magnets he supplies are parylene coated, and come in two sizes (at least they did back when I got mine). I personally…
  • He will, but you should still let him know in advance. He implanted two of my m31s. I've also got a couple of the magnets he supplies and can vouch for their quality.
  • @sparrow I actually keep forgetting to massage it, so I can't really say whether it worked or not
  • Where are you getting your handle? I was getting all my parts from a self-serve scrap yard. Bring your own tools, $2 to get in, and when you leave they don't really care what kind of car the handle came from so I'd be surprised if it cost more than a mirror. While you're in there you can pocket some fuses and bulbs to make…
  • Just adding my thoughts to this thread. I was going to do this project on my old car (but now have a new car where I can do all this by just having the fob in my pocket.) When I was working on this, my plan was to carve a loop into the the inside of the plastic door handle, put the coil in the groove, then fill with resin.…
  • Other implants are listed on the other pages. There's a page for RFIDs and a page for other (like firefly tattoos)
  • Oh yeah, my bad there. I didn't really mean to say TiN itself is bad (clearly it isn't since not all m31s failed.) I just found the 45% failure rate for the m31 interesting since those were meant to be implanted and I'd expected those to be tested before shipping. I'm wondering if some of those rejected m31s had defects…
  • @zerbula And that's fine to err on the side of caution, but it's the one year thing that annoys me. I've removed that whole "important note" from the wiki. There was no source for that information, and the editor who added it didn't leave their username. This is right from the top of the parylene wikipedia article (linked…
  • @misslitty is that an old/alternate version? This one seems more complete: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Q5zeI1JH4aDChXedzSp0U9c0Vq3ePgdS4t7_V-sch40/edit#gid=0
  • I don't know where people get these suggested numbers for how long parylene is good for. I think I'm at 3 years on mine. Others should have had theirs longer. Put a good one in and take care of it, and you'll be fine. I've had more trouble with my 3 TiN magnets than either of my parylene coated ones. @masterjasper This has…
  • Moving discussion from other thread here. As mentioned in the other thread, I think you're on the right track and using a spatula-like tool and second probe (pictured below) worked very well for implanting a flexible nfc in my hand. When we used these there was enough blood on the implant already and just in general to…
  • Liking the spatula idea, but will there be enough space on top to put the probe in and push the implant out of the spatula without the implant ending up too close to the incision? Also, on a related note, I just got one on the back of my hand. Even with the stiffer silicone @AlexSmith used for me, it still wanted to fold.…
  • Um... you're literally describing dental implants. they are a thing, and I have one tooth done that way. Some teeth are replaced with a crown- grind down the old tooth, put a fake cap on it (i've got one of those, too.) but dental implants they remove your tooth, put a titanium peg into your jaw, and then once that heals…
  • Why do you need to implant magnets for this? If you're already wearing clothes with sensors, battery, wiring, coil for the magnets, etc. then it makes sense to just use a vibrating motor or something in place of a coil and implanted magnet. Magnets would work, but they are usually implanted in the fingers because those…
  • Thanks for the drawing, although more angles and some kind of scale might help, I'm still not sure how big this thing is or what's happening under the skin. Anyway, I'm still not sure that what you're doing is any better than a smartwatch since it still has a surface component. Either way, a good approach for anything like…
  • I understand you're trying to save money, but you are planning to implant something you'll have for a while... I'd highly recommend getting a single magnet instead of gluing multiple together. I don't know if superglue is safe or not, but if you're gluing them together you're creating pockets for bacteria and increasing…
  • Why not just get a watch strap and make a version you wear on your wrist? Or just get a smart watch? It sounds neat, but with the barbells and surface piece it doesn't sound much better than a smartwatch. Especially since I'm a bit careless and snagging that on something (like putting on my shirt) sounds painful. Maybe I'm…
  • Have you checked out the Dangerous Things partner map? Looks like there are a few professionals in the UK who can do magnets. You might have to travel a couple hundred miles, but I don't think that's unusual (the "close" professional I just found is 250 miles from me.) Also, my experience with the professionals I've gone…
  • @chironex wouldn't the whole lens glow and be useless if you put some kind of phosphor in it? A ray of UV light would come in, hit the phosphor, and then wouldn't the phosphor emit visible light in a random direction?
  • Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be trying to massage it frequently over the next few weeks and see how it goes.
  • Hmm, the parylene binding to tissue thing sounds familiar, although I hadn't thought of that since the other is fine. Massaging sounds like a better idea than messing with a really big magnet. @Meanderpaul @BirdMachine do you know if I can just massage the fingertip with my thumb throughout the day, or does the massaging…
  • @Meanderpaul They're parylene coated and were not autoclaved. The procedure was done by a professional. Both magnets are identical, implanted the same way in the same sitting. The only difference is that now one rotates to stick to the spoon I'm picking up, the other does not rotate and will not get a good enough hold on…
  • Happy to be a tester for the new ones, and will already be ordering something else from you soon.
  • I'm not so sure about implanting a full phone. A lot of the features you might want in a phone would not translate well to an implant (texting, changing settings, etc.) I think Grazerquart has the right idea- implant a headset or something similar and you could get away with pairing it to any phone over bluetooth (NFC can…
  • A bit rusty on it all, but I've got some background in server administration (including a little toying around with single sign on between a forum and a wiki, made some decent progress but the forum lost interest in the wiki before I finished.) Also have a background in PHP/JS/JQuery/CSS/SQL and Python, and a little…
