  • I'm down to try it out. I'd like to see it first though.
  • Also totally down fo the study groups.
  • I'd be down to guinea pig for this, once you guys get a protocol down.
  • @Severina the part of the eyes in cats that is reflective is called the Tapetum Lucidum, and while it does significantly boost dim/night vision, it's at a cost of day vision. The way this works is there is a thin layer behind the retina that reflects light back into the photoreceptors giving the animal a "second pass" this…
  • I read recently of work to try and make a human electric organ similar to ones electric eels have. I can't find the article, but it's certainly interesting.
  • @drjaaz That's an april fools joke from a few years back if you go to buy now it'll send you to a page about being pranked. But to address simply why we can't do this. Hypothetically, if we could produce a canvas under the skin, it would either be too deep to show through the skin, or if some sort of elevating mechanism…
  • I thought the first gene gone was made from a modified airsoft gun. Probably not as fancy, but couldn't that be a viable alternative instead of what is undoubtedly very expensive?
  • @drjaaz The issue I see with making a more resilient strain, or because its bacteria just selective breeding for more resilient strains, is that that would basically mean breeding/modding for faster replication cycles. That can be incredibly dangerous given that when we have open wounds, they already get infected from…
  • @Cassox I came across a study awhile back that looked into making neural progenitor cells from discarded epithelial cells in someones urine. I don't have the study on hand but I think it'll be easy enough to find with just that info. They even went as far being able to coax astroglia which is a very interesting prospect.
  • There was a company awhile back that claims to have removed the need to shower by cultivating some species of bacteria on the skin that feed on whatever body odor is made of. If we could cultivate this bacteria ourselves that might be interesting, or even far away prospects of genemodding for specific smells? Link to…
  • After a long hiatus, I was stoked to see all the development on this. Ordered :)
  • I used to remember all of the passages involved with it but can't any longer. Was raised christian, and although most of that knowledge has degraded from lack of use it usually boils down into what it actually says. So when someone brings up that I have the mark of the beast. I point out that it doesn't really fit the…
  • There's a similar device that has a stripe of hydroxyapatite near the top. The bone and skin grow into it, thus sealing the wound. Then the soun dprocessor clipped into it loosely (so as to not injure you if you fell). This might be better in the long run in case there are other projects you want to do.
  • @Jack_Sylvane Actually, think of it this way. Fingerprints are important for identification because they are unique to an individual. If people's fingerprints could be easily copied, and released to the public, this would have a similar outcome as you removing them. This all being said, at the beginning you better have…
  • Here's a slightly different idea. Aqueous solution of hydroxyapatite. Tattooed into the finger with the designated pattern. Tattoos on the face of the palm typically don't stay but if it was hydroxyapatite, maybe the skin would just grow around it and raise it. Albeit this presumably wouldn't remove your already existing…
  • @glims. First thing that comes to mind is a mild acid bath and hydroxyapatite. Fungal infection could be interesting though. We already have a ton of fungus that grow on our skin, maybe genetically modifying one? As in small garage diybio lab. nothing super sophisticated.
  • @Jack_sylvane retina scanners make a map of the vessels in your eye. I don't believe Lasik effects those, but someone more knowledgeable can comment on that. To fool or give false readings you would need something to interfere with the ir light the bounces back out to make the image. I know of no way to do that beyond…
  • If the contact lenses reflect IR then it will be fooled. the issue is they check for contacts. It'd be technically possible to get a lense that reflected ir implanted under the cornea, or potential some sort of retro reflective beads (tapetum lucidum anybody?). but regardless the first method is invasive and stops any…
  • @Saal yeah it was kinda fucking crazy. i've been looking on an off on how to beat those and have come up with 2 options that might be sorta feasible, though it would remove the ability to obtain IR vision provided the recent project is a success. But yeah, bullshit charge, bullshit court, and has since only helped my…
  • @DirectorX that sounds like something horrible to subject yourself to even if it is just localized to the hands. That being said, maybe a way to express it temporarily?
  • When I got arrested in Colorado they took every part of my hand and retina. And I was only going in for misdemeanor.
  • @Jack_Sylvane Hypothetically. Yes. That being said you'd be losing touch sensitivity. Along with that, if the purpose of these were to conceal identity it wouldn't work. They test for fingerprints, palm prints, side prints, and writers print. All of which are unique, besides the obvious problems with diminishing your touch…
  • I mean for the sole purpose of changing fingerprints it would definitely be above and beyond the effort for the gain you would get. That being said if was incorporated into something bigger. Like maybe the self healing synthetic skin material that was on her awhile ago then i feel it would be worth. Have a cut? Just hold…
  • I have an idea. This would be expensive and invasive. But what about bone anachors dermals? If we could find a supplier or someone who can coat titanium in hydroxyapetite it wouldn't reject and you could switch out finger pads.
  • @directorX do you know what temperatures it responds to? And have you tried the silver coated nylon thread yet?
  • As a side note. would there be a way to say pierce the ear but towards the base so it's against the skull and have the whisker made of some material that would downsample various soundwaves? Like if a sound wave hit the whisker at 5hz but the whisker was only capable of transmitting 3hz. Finding the right material would be…
  • It's the coating they used on the verichip so that the flesh would grow into it and prevent it from moving. I have no idea how it would react going through the skin though.
  • Maybe something coated with biobond? But I don't know how well that would react with subdermals.
  • Also as a sidenote, have you looked into supplementing methylene blue with the rest of your supplements? It's currently undergoing studies as an anti alzheimers drug by the name of Rember. Might be worth looking into seeing as methylene blue is dirt cheap.
