  • Thanks everyone :) glad you like the project As to improper genome integration, ya that's something I worry about, but the risk is quiet small. In future version i'm hoping to implement things to further limit that issue.
  • Haha, glad I can inspire! Good episode, and thanks for the shout out :)
  • did some more reading, found this https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC521149/ different paper that talks about the interaction between cryptochrome proteins, neurons, and this other protein called c-fos that's also expressed in the same areas. f-cos is part of AP-1 which controls gene expression amongst other…
  • I think the photoreceptor aspect of this might be really important. I wonder if the reason this requires light exposure to work is because normally things aren't magnetic at such a small size. that whole protein has maybe 10 FeS clusters tops which is an absurdly small amount of magnetic material. Normally you need much…
  • Closing this thread. Chakras don't exist, and this discussion is not productive. If you want to talk about nerve regeneration, or cell varieties in particular tissues, start a separate thread.
  • Yes. Legitimately trying to breath them without you being in a coma would be awful. But I've seen some stuff where they doped blood with them and it let athlete preform better due to extra reserve of oxygen. But had a bunch of potential side effects. Been a long ass time since I read up on it though
  • that's for supercapacitor stuff lol. Unrelated to cell culture
  • ^for now. Been thinking about this recently. Might pick it up again down the line now that we have mammalian cell culture capabilities. Will make this a lot easier to test without having to cut ourselves open every time we want to test something. But I've got other stuff to do first, so it's really a backburner project.
  • Intramuscular is fine. IV is better but not neccasary unless you're doing more than 5 ml at a time. That's usually used for trauma patients who are getting 60mls at a time
  • Here's a protocol for hemocyte isolation from caterpillars https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3523423/
  • First off, if you can get media for $6 please share your source cause $6 DMEM would be great. A packet of DMEM usually costs $20-1000 depending on what kind you get, not to mention all the other stuff you'll need. Because remember, you'll need to passage your cells regularly. So you need trypsin, and PBS. And all your…
  • setting up a lab for mammalian will cost thousands of dollars. Even the media to keep the cells alive can be several hundred. The laminar flow hood alone will cost a bucket load. Not to mention the co2 incubator. The cells are one of the least expensive parts. If you've got everything else, getting cells should be easy
  • do you have the equipment for that? growing mammalian cells isn't like growing bacteria. Yes you can grow more, but only if you have all the gear
  • In short? It'll be basically useless. The whole point of putting it in your hands is that your hands are how you interact with most of the world. You can reach out and get a feel for things. If it's in your face, you need to put your face near things to feel it. Since the things you'll feel usually involve strong magnets,…
  • i mean you can try nasal spray. I think semax comes like that. Eye drops sound aweful, and I dunno if you wanna expose your eyes directly to a cocktail of nerve growth hormones
  • ya there's a process called integration where the plasmid get incorporated into the main chromosome. Makes the change permanent.
  • yup. That's where we got our cerebrolysin. If you look around they've got pretty good reviews
  • no problem
  • rupharma sells it for a dollar for a pack of vials
  • Can't take all the credit haha. This project was glims idea and we worked together on it, hence this being on the scihouse channel.
  • So after the 10 days I'm feeling really good. I think the dose was a bit low though. Next time I'm definitely gonna go for 5ml at a time. I didn't have issues with sleep at all, in fact I'm sleeping better now than I did before and waking up earlier. I felt really productive the whole time. I'm almost bummed that it's over…
  • Thing is, infrared light doesn't carry that much energy. So most things won't fluoresce when exposed to it. If it were that easy, they'd use that tech in night vision goggles, but they don't. They use fancy silicon ccd's or other electronic solutions
  • Far as I can tell, it's meant to enable you to skip the work of designing a plasmid that can work both in bacteria and in humans, so you can just focus on the gene you care about. That's important because to administer DNA to humans you need an aweful lot of DNA if you want more than a few cells to express it. So by having…
  • @Hunter rupharma @puzbiks1 Wow that's quite an effect. Don't know if that amount of not sleeping is really what I'm going for so i think the 10 days ought to be just right then.
  • Am I going crazy or did there used to be a "mark all viewed button" that isn't there anymore? If that was removed, is it possible to put it back...?
  • as I mentioned in the video, the pocket should be a lot deeper than the magnet so the opening has room to close and heal properly. That was an early shot from when we were testing the fit and hadn't pushed it in the whole way. Eitherway you need to leave enough room for the stitch.
  • Just talked with Glims. Since there's been so much interest, we're actually gonna see about getting another batch from the same supplier. Not sure how long it'll take to get them made and tested, but either way, should have something soonish hopefully. That said, I'd rather not flood this thread with requests to have us…
