  • Can you seed it with cells from that particular organ? Or could you use your stem cells? I was thinking about the possibility of growing a new pancreas for diabetic patients. Since this isn't a "medical" study you can take many more liberties than the fda would allow.
  • I dont know if anyone has mentioned it but this is very similar to a device my father almost got. He is nearly deaf in one ear since an ear infection so doctors recommended a baha. Its a type of hearing aid that is attached to a titanium stud in the skull behind the ear. It is built to pick up normal sounds but it may be…
  • As far as I've heard from other people the devices that indicate North do not form an innate sense. When removed you lose that as surely as removing a magnet. Maybe if you were constantly orienting yourself and looking at stars you may be able to train yourself. If you were conscious enough of your surroundings it may help…
  • Have you considered the possibility of being unable to access it once it's implanted? The skin is notorious for causing problems with waves passing through it like GPS and Bluetooth. I wouldn't be concerned about accessing it with your phone but connecting to WiFi may be spotty.
  • Strikes - Thats why I suggested mounting into the bone underneath. Having the nail free-floating would not be a smart option imo. When knock your nail, normally the nail-bed catches the back of the nail and the the nail flexes to absorb shock. A free-floating nail even in-bedded in the nail-bed would be dangerous. I'm…
  • Isn't sodium hydroxide lye? Lye is a normal part of soap making so basically the only odd thing she did was use human fat. Plastic surgeons have made candles for patients before using their own fat.
  • Well a screw might be more secure than a root connection even if we could make one. The nerves in your teeth naturally stop you from chewing something that could break a tooth loose where the titanium tooth wouldn't provide that feedback. You could easily end up ripping it out. Wouldn't tritium be too dim to see unless you…
  • Personally I wouldn't do an implant on a minor even with parents their giving consent in person. Some parents will let kids whatever they like and I wouldn't trust the kid to take proper care of it. Even if I didn't care about their safety, I would care about my business and they could try to sue even with proper…
  • If you insisted on the titanium nails I personally would put a peg through the finger bone to attach it. The only problem I see is a normal nail gives but that wouldnt so you wouldnt want to hit it on anything. Can you imagine titanium toenails and stubbing your toe?!
  • Do you have any recommendations? I'm in Greenville, SC and have been looking for a little while since I would rather not go to a generic piercer and hope they get it right.
  • Another downside for people with normal teeth is loss of sensation. The nerves in the teeth give you a surprising amount of information.
  • It would be a lot of pain to avoid something I have to do maybe once a month for a few minutes.
  • One problem with metal teeth could be like the problem I have with my fillings. If i make any contact with metal between the top and bottom teeth I get a zing that feels like licking a 9volt battery. I don't know what causes it but if you had the same thing every time you close your teeth it would be agony.
  • As with any new tech you need to be a little wary and this even more so. Playing with the brain is a very delicate matter.
  • I'm in SC and would like to go to a real organized event with vendors and such
  • From my highschool biology crass I learned that the fingernails provide support to the fingers since the bones in the end only go about a third of the way to the end of the finger. When you grab anything the nails provide resistance to keep it from being like trying to grab something with floppy sausages. From the way my…
  • I don't know how I feel about it recommending adrafinil. There is plenty of evidence that it causes liver problems.
  • @Cassox Topical application just gave me an idea! My father has been looking at a specific medication being developed for "vampires" that have a genetic condition with zero medical condition. The drug just causes a lot of melanin production and is temporary. What if we could change the melanin production of the top layer…
  • The conference ends wednesday and they should be releasing the documentation soon.
  • @Cassox I will say that for me 400 was too much but I do believe it has a stronger effect. 200 is now my normal but I double dosed one day and ended up not accomplishing much more and feeling really burnt out the next day. @Jordygordy Just a note that if you feel burnt out maybe try scaling back. It might help you feel…
  • I don't believe it is meant to be a promotion. I think they are recognising the concerns they are raising with this game series. There was no need to have a conference like this before because the whole human modification scene is relatively new in the technological sense. Yes, I know vision correction and prosthetic limbs…
  • "The Code of Ethics will be presented live at the close of the Human by Design conference on August 3 in New York City. Check back on August 4 to read the Code and to learn about its methodology and authors."
  • I have seen magnet switches before but mostly swipe to activate. I don't know if a sustained magnetic pull could be incorporated into a switch. NFC would be easier to use once set up but I think setting it up would be a lot more complicated and energy consuming.
  • If you wanted to harvest energy from it you either wouldnt want the lead glass, which is dangerous, or you would want the betavoltaic device paired with the tritium and both coated. The second option would make the implant larger.
  • I have looking into this as possibly the biggest reason to implant rfid. I see what you are saying with the smart lock but what about a reprogrammable one. Something like this https://www.okidokeys.com/content/6-how-it-works . It appears to be able to programmed to work with lots of different chips.
  • So the M31s would be best? I am a little worried with some people saying the discs will flip which can be painful. Is it really that bad?
