  • Also - got a bounceback from that email address. Is [email protected] correct?
  • Very interesting, can you give a little more info? Maybe I missed the post discussing the NorthStar, but this is the first I've heard of it. How big is it? What's the expected lifetime? Any idea how bright it will be under the skin? Price / size? Regardless - email sent :)
  • Honestly I'm not trying to beat the system. I just want to get out of carting around an extra card - and would love to be able to just wave my hand to get on the Bart. Hacking cards properly would be interesting, but not really the point here.
  • I'm keen to give this a shot as well. I would love to be able to get a bay area clipper card into an implantable state. From what I understand it has some sort of encryption that keeps it from being cloned.
  • Brian Decker ([email protected] ) Did both of mine and a couple for friends. I'm super happy with his work. He's based in NY, but comes to the Bay every six months or so. Worth getting in touch and seeing when he'll be around next. Also - general shout-out to any bay area biohackers. Drop me a line and let's grab a…
  • Yea, technically it's all simple. Just a matter of getting most of the assets made and putting them together. I would like to eventually be able to link this out to non VR things. There are some cheap thermal camera's starting to show up on the market I bet within a year there will be something we could mount on top of a…
  • Yea, I'm picturing actual representations of the field using shaders / particle effects. It would be interesting to have the real data floating above the devices as well. Something kind of like this: https://www.shadertoy.com/view/MslGRn but with more energy and a non uniform shape IE should have dense spots and weak…
  • Is there anything in the works that we could throw some extra effort at and have all finished by the time the conference happens?
  • Yea, we got more momentum in the past 6 months than in the previous year. The scene had honestly stagnated for a while and now there are a dozen active projects. Bummer to hear you guys are going separate ways, but your energy really helped light a fire in the community.
  • Got got to say the modular platform is a great idea. I dont have any hardware experience, but if you need a second set of hands for software I'm happy to help.
  • Thanks for the heads up. I'll order the other cloner that Alex posted as well.
  • I've got a place in SF with couch room for a couple of people. If anyone needs somewhere to crash while in town just hit me up.
  • I could chisel out time for a weekly skype/whatever class.
  • Mmm, good point. Well if it doesn't work I'll try the reader you just posted. I'm going to test that everything works before implantation obviously so it's just a matter of playing around and getting everything hooked up correctly.
  • I just ordered this one - I'll report once all the pieces show up.
  • I'm also looking at about a staples worth of strength from the m31 - non autoclaved. However, I think it may have been implanted too deep and that's the issue for me. However, if lifting strength is a plus you could always look at the m63. For comparison I have a Decker paraline coated one that can lift a spoon. The things…
  • I saw something like this that used haptic feedback - it's a vest that has depth sensors attached to the motors, used mainly for the visually impaired, but I think we could definitely hack something similar together. https://hackaday.io/project/1962-3d-haptic-vest-for-visually-impaired-and-gamers
  • So - trip report from the stargazing adventure. We ended up going to lake Tahoe this weekend and three people took the drops. Overall experience was pretty mild, but there were several places I think we messed up in the procedure. We went out to the shore of the lake around an hour and a half after taking the drops, and…

  • I gave it a shot. Not impressed. It would only run if the phone was activated, so you cant really put it in your pocket because either the home/back button would get bumped or the power button would depress. I walked for a while holding it in my hands and it did kind of work, but it isnt something that's useable in any…
  • Just to derail this nice technical talk with a hypothetical - Would it be possible to make some sort of early warning tattoo? IE something that changes color if it encounters certain pathogens or cancer cells etc.

  • What are our options for a non implantable compass? The old bulky northpaw design is what - three or four years old? If we rebuild it with modern technology I bet we could come up with a design that could fit within a belt or something similar. Having this implanted eventually would be really cool, but in the interim…
  • So we're planning a camping/star gazing trip to test these guys out next weekend. Would having a fire cause problems? I'm not sure how much light is too much light.

  • It looks like this project has legs in the Biotech field too. Anything we can learn from this? Being red green color blind myself this is something I'm really curious about. Also - my biotech friend that sent me the link say's that once we have a platform for delivering DNA for visual augmentation it could be pushed beyond…
  • Seconding the interest from ZombieGristle here. I didn't realize how quickly thing were moving. Any plans for future batches?

  • Or using it to our advantage - I seem to be using my right lung to incubate an complex collection of bacteria. We could save on valuable lab space.
  • Damn - Came down down with pneumonia. Terrible timing. Hope you guys decide to do this again sometime. I'm going to miss this round.
  • Cool - just for headcount purposes, I'll be coming down from SF with three others. My cousin and one of his friends are planning on coming down as well. I'll be bring an Oculus Rift for shits and giggles.
  • "if you find a piercer willing to do it with a magnet you bring in yourself, you probably shouldn't do it. " Unless they are are up to date with the scene. I've had both my implants done by Brian Decker. When the M31 first came out I brought one to him and he was happy to put it in. He had been keeping up with the news and…
  • How are accommodations looking? Space enough on the couch or should people look into booking rooms?
  • I've got room for one more person on the drive down from San Francisco. I don't mind swinging a little bit out of the way to pick someone up - Fresno or Bakersfield wouldn't be to much trouble.
