  • @Zerbula That's a valid point and certainly possible... Just a bit strange it would take 15 months to fail, but I can see that happening. I hesitate to just consider the case as "closed" so to say though as that may also not be a factor. I wonder how many people have had m31s as long and how many of those have been…
  • I talked to a friend of mine that is highly familiar with metal manufacturing, he pointed out that while it's not necessarily the case it's important to not discount the possibility the stresses within the NdFeB could have stressed the coating causing it to fail, rather than the coating failing due to external stresses.
  • @Zerbula yes it was autoclaved due to a labeling mistake. That would be an interesting thing to test if any one has a m31 they can fry for a test.. and had a way of 'scanning' the surface before an after.
  • @JohnDoe I strongly suspect the smaller crack that's raise came first and the subsequent oxidation lead to the magnet cracking which pulled apart the coating all the way across.
  • @TheGreyKnight that's correct
  • So I took some more photos. It looks to me like the coating was compromised first, which cause the magnet to structurally weaken and eventually fracture. There's an additional crack in the coating almost perpendicular to the main break line, which seems to have lifted too, which is probably consistent with the magnet…
  • @Zerbula All good. That is indeed the million dollar question as it were - was the coating compromised first causing the structural failure?I'm going to try to get some more/better images of it to analyse. Does anyone know how bodily fluids actually react with NdFeB? Does it soften, crumble, expand, weather, turn colors?…
  • @zerbula you should be able to see it in the photos, does the link work properly? I'm mainly using the photos to inspect it my self - much larger and easier to see. It pretty much just looks like a crack that it split along. The magnet looks like it was bent and cracked in a line along the bend line, the coating lifted…
  • @JohnDoe I'm not sure about that, the magnet seemed well in its way out and probably would have come out on its own in a matter of days. Though certainly I wouldn't recommend just waiting for it to come out.As far as the root cause sorry about not being clear about the scuba tank - I did NOT drop it on this magnet, it was…
  • Hi, I have an M31 that rejected after ~15 months. An close up analysis of the magnet revealed that it cracked down the middle and tore the coating. I can't figure out what activity caused it to break, I don't remember hitting it on anything. I went to be Saturday and it appeared fine. Woke up Sunday and it was swollen. Got…
  • I will post it in the rejection thread, but for now here's a link to the close up pics, sorry a bit blurry hard to focus on something that close.http://imgur.com/a/PCJxo
  • Got it pulled. Coating was compromised - cracked down the middle on one of the faces and the coating lifted a bit. I'll post pictures and a detailed report tomorrow.. probably in it's own thread.
  • @JohnDoe it's not too terribly painful as long as I don't bump it into anything.
  • Not sure if it's generally better etiqutte to post a link to the images or post them inline so I'll just play it safe and post the link http://imgur.com/a/0hVOz @glims I see you point but I'd rather play it safe, scheduled removal for tomorrow afternoon. Also it would probably be beneficial to have someone that knows what…
  • Just talked to my installer, looks like it will indeed have to come out. Making arrangements for that now. It appears to be rejecting slowly indeed. Will try to get some photos.
  • Okay likely important thing I just detected. I looked at the previous post I mentioned and @DirectorX mentioned that a compromised magnet would likely lose strength so I just tested it's strength and it's actually stronger than it's ever been (by the amount of weight it can pick up). This would likely mean it's closer to…
  • Yea I doubt that it was flawed to begin with as it would not have lasted a year as @TheGreyKnight points out. I'm somewhat okay with having to take it out, I was planning on it at some point anyway, but how urgent it is is the matter - my installer is an 8 hour round trip away and with limited availability generally, so if…
  • If it is wouldn't m36 be a more logical name at it would maintain the conventionset by the m31 of diameter first?
  • is this 3mm diameter x 6mm long or the other way around
  • Ya well if there is indeed a considerable decrease I'll replace it. Wanna let it heal first, also my installer needs to get more stock... I'm considering putting another m31 in my pinky first, so that I could compare first hand the difference between a claved and unclaved magnet. Then based on that decide whether to go…
  • Within a few hours it was no longer continuously sore and only hurt when touched. (Took days with the parylene, likely because of the sutures.) For a few days thereafter it alternated between not being sore and being sore, which I find a common experience with wounds - they get better so subconsciously I get less careful…
  • Will different coils respond best to different frequencies?
  • There are also signal generators available for Android (and I would assume other smartphones as well) for free download. This one seems to work pretty well https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keuwl.functiongenerator
  • I found it when I went on amazon to find the IC :)
  • Would you be able to use something like this? http://www.amazon.com/LM386-Amplifier-Module-Adjustable-Resistance/dp/B00BX7QWX8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1408387452&sr=8-4&keywords=lm386
  • Cat 5 cables aren't generally shielded (they use the twist-pairs to combat noise) but the voltage and current going through them is very low: +-2.5V much too low to feel.. Also signal would probably be too high frequency. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_physical_layer)
  • Though come to think of it.. it is possible that my PC power cable is shielded
  • I can only feel wires AC wires that have A LOT of current running through them - My computer power cable - nothing The power cable to 6 monitors - at about 2-3mm away Power cable to my 1500 Watt blender - yes When you say idle you mean not doing anything at all? interesting I wouldn't have expected a noticeable signal from…
  • Looks awesome!! Looking forward to some hands on... or in hands.. testing :D
  • Cassox, Thank you for that information. To be clear in layman's terms (I don't have an extensive medical background) you are suggesting that there is a significant advantage to place the magnet in the ring and middle fingers, as it seems to actually rewire how your brain processes the stimulation. The above papers suggest…
