VeriChip: The FDA Approved Biohack

Did a write-up for the VeriChip scanner and implant that I recently received! Was a fun little exploration into one of the early RFID implants.

  • How much attenuation is experienced with embedded RFID tags?

    @Muiren it depends on the frequency and the antenna shape/coupling. Commonly RFID uses 125kHz and 13.56MHz. In most cases the flesh doesn't attenuate the signal significantly, it's really the characteristics of the LC tank circuit in the implant that changes the performance. The shape of the reader antenna and the amplitude of the signal play a large role as well.
  • Wow so doing more reading and apparently VeriChip was implanting chips in Alzheimer's patients with only the caregivers consent. I really question whether those patients had any concept of what was happening. Super questionable.
