Difference between RFID and NFC?

So yeah what is the difference between them? Can't you scan them the same way and the way they receive and transmit data work the same? Or is it that one stores power differently? Or do they have different chips? I really don't know. And what one is better for implants?

  • RFID is the general broad term relating to the technology as such. It includes but is not limited to things like low frequency (125-128 kHz) used for logistics and animal identification, HF (13-ish MHz) which cover wireless payment, NFC and many others, UHF, up to microwave frequency.

    So NFC is just one small specific part in a very big RFID-Universe.

    What's best for implant depends on what you want to use it for. If all you want to do is to get your computer to identify you with no authentication, an off the LF tag would be perfectly fine. If you need something where you can store a bunch of bytes then HF tags like Mifare might be your choice. If you want to interact with smartphones, NFC would be the choice.
