The biohack.me forums were originally run on Vanilla and ran from January 2011 to July 2024. They are preserved here as a read-only archive. If you had an account on the forums and are in the archive and wish to have either your posts anonymized or removed entirely, email us and let us know.

While we are no longer running Vanilla, Patreon badges are still being awarded, and shoutout forum posts are being created, because this is done directly in the database via an automated task.

Slack, Study Group, Meetups

So, there is an associated slack board in which some technical discussion have been occuring. Slack by it's nature is by invite, but this doesn't mean that anyone is trying to be exclusive or hiding anything. It's just a useful addedum to this site. I guess it was mentioned offhand the other day and people didn't know about it so I guess this is... a notice? A DBA? A disclaimer? Anyhow, I'm not sure how it'll work out but after the biohack forums are updated there is talk of either just dropping the Slack boards or at least listing out projects being actively pursued in case someone really wants to get involved.

Also, SFM has already found a few people interested in forming "study groups" (for lack of a better term.) The idea is this: the creation of a kind of basic curriculum for EE, Programming, Biology and whatnot. Of course, some of this will involve work on the wiki etc, but to start it'll most likely take the form of a group of us taking an online free course on a subject like programming or something. Being really excited isn't enough. We need to improve ourselves yaddah yaddah. Let us know is your interested. I think it'll be a lot of fun and it will promote some group building without people having to question what they bring to the table.

Third: SFM wants to host a Grinder meetup bonfire bbq thing. We were discussing having it mid december, possibly coinciding with one of the really awesome meteor showers. This would be in the Mojave desert north of Los Angeles. If your interested in attending please respond. If your interested but the timeframe is bad, still reply. This is still in its infancy, but it would be cool for some of you guys and gals to come out and talk/drink/whatnot.

  4. This would be a rather obvious place to start:

  5. I'm down :)
  6. I adore the idea of the bonfire and meetups, but likewise I'm on the opposite corner of the country. Study groups that CAN happen across time and space, however? Now that's something I can be on board with :) (and who knows, maybe work will calm down enough soon so I can take a couple days and fly out to that coast.)
  7. Since there is some renewed interest in the slack board, bumping this thread. message glims or cass for invite
  8. I'm down and should be able to come, would be interested in these "study groups". @FrankMatheson I'm sure is also interested. MIT's openCourseWare might be a good place to start but much of it is pretty beyond beginner-level stuff, so perhaps some other MOOCs should be taken before/in tandem
