Magnet Replacement question
I have a question for you self-surgeons and experienced grinders out there.
I have a few of the m31 magnets sitting in a box ready to go. All of my current installations were done by professional piercers, and I know they will install the m31s for me, but I'm considering joining the club of self-installers. Specifically, I want to take out a VP-Scientific magnet out of my ring finger, and replace it with an m31. I'm familiar with various blogs about self-installing a magnet from augmentationlimitless, jacksbrain, etc, but I haven't seen a lot about removing a magnet.
I figure I can follow those blogs up to making the incision, use a scalpel or elevator to recreate the pocket, use a some sterile metal to attract the VP magnet out, then simply place the m31 in where the old magnet was and suture up.
Am I overlooking anything here? Do I need to worry about the size difference between the two (3x.5 vs 3x1)? VP coats their magnets with parylene. Do I need to worry about tissue bonding? Thanks in advance for any ideas...

Hey Pib, let me first start by saying that I only implanted my first mags this weekend just gone (planning to do a '1 week later' write-up on Saturday), have no official medical experience, and that you should hold off on following any of my advice until one of the pro's have checked in here! Now that's covered, let's continue :p
Obviously follow full implantation procedure (sterilise ALL the things!, etc), but otherwise using a larger magnet/piece of metal to remove yours post-incision seems the most logical route (from what I could tell in the one or two extraction videos I've seen). Just make sure your incision is wide enough to allow the magnet to pass from your body without resistance, otherwise you may risk some pretty tasty nerve damage.
As you are putting a mag into a pocket that's already been made, I don't see why you should have any trouble with a minor size difference :) Skin is pretty lenient when it comes to moving around, as long as there's not too much pressure on it. Perhaps using some elevators first would make it more comfortable, but in my humble, amateur opinion I wouldn't worry to much!
If I remember correctly, the TiN coating on the m31's is not a bio-bonding surface, so it should just 'float' under the skin :) And, of course, if you don't feel fully confident, you can always have one of your mags installed by your professional, watch them very closely and ask lots of questions! ... Just be aware that if you tell them you plan on self-implanting your next one, the information train will almost certainly terminate at the next stop! -
From what I recall, parylene does bond to tissue, which might make things tricky. I would check with @Cassox and see what he says about detaching tissues that have bonded, but I'll be doing some research to see what I can find on the topic as well.I would also try to avoid damaging the coating of the original magnet when making the initial incision.
