The biohack.me forums were originally run on Vanilla and ran from January 2011 to July 2024. They are preserved here as a read-only archive. If you had an account on the forums and are in the archive and wish to have either your posts anonymized or removed entirely, email us and let us know.

While we are no longer running Vanilla, Patreon badges are still being awarded, and shoutout forum posts are being created, because this is done directly in the database via an automated task.

How do you organize your own Syntheric Biology Club or Company or Non Profit

I am interested in learning to start one but I understand there are barriers to entry such as making the lab meet FDA Standards, Ethics, Getting Venture Capital and hiring the right people to make it work. I am a bio major trying to get into this business.

  1. I would start by asking other people who have started their own labs. Here is a list to work off of, and that whole website (diybio.org) should have some useful information for you:

  2. Thanks I am from Sacramento and I am trying to consult with my Teachers at Sacramento State University to see is we can start one in the Valley and my Community College Teachers from Solano County in California. I heard of UC Davis mentioned in all of this. But I will Look at the list if all else fails.
