lactase to remove lactose?

It's used in a lot of medications in the US as filler. Some people have dairy allergies and have difficulty obtaining lactose-free medications at the moment. I'm curious whether there's a good way to test whether lactose has been completely removed from a sample after adding / mixing with lactase?
