Activity (or Lack Thereof)

I'm rather sad to see the activity on these forums dwindling severely. The ideas here have been fantastic and the discussions insightful - there just needs to be more of both. So how do we fix this?

Is it feasible to do a regular internet "meetup"? Schedule a weekly time for people to show up on IRC or some other thing and simply discuss relevant topics/information. Perhaps even give each meeting a schedule, agenda, or specific topic to focus on.

    Part of the problem is this isn't supposed to be a talking shop; we're supposed to be moving the state of the art forward. I know I'm not posting because, for various reasons, my various projects have all (temporarily) stalled.

    Speaking of IRC, our channel doesn't seem to be up--in fact, I can't even connect to wutnet.  Is this a maintenance thing, or is something wrong with the servers?

    as for my part.. i sorta hoped i could get some work done on biohacking stuff.. but then one of my customers sorta bombarded me with work and since i have to pay my rent, those have priority. i still have all parts necessary to build stuff tho. so.. as soon as i have more free time (hopefully during the semester), i will move on.

    I figure that the best way to create progress in this area is for everyone to be communicating. I personally do not see the point in what amounts to a collective blog site where we each simply track various projects. Conversation about the subject of grinding - the community, the science, the theory, the actual grinding itself - leads to innovation. I'm certain that every person here has had ideas that he or she has not shared, and even if they're totally pie-in-the-sky distant future project concepts, those are the things that help give other people new ideas and lead to innovation. Everyone here has a very unique perspective on the subject, and we should be using those perspectives - each other - to take this as far as it can go.

    Which is a ridiculously long and roundabout way of saying that I think that more discussion would be a good thing, and a regular "meetup" of sorts seems to me like a good way to get things going.

    Then again, it'll obviously be pointless/fruitless if no one wants that out of this - or if that is in no way what biohack.me is about/for.

    I like the idea of a weekly irc meetup, it seems like a good way of getting discussion flowing fast and freely. The only problem is a difference of timezones and commitments. Are there polls on the forum? We could get a rough idea of when would be best for everyone, and if they'd want to do it anyway.

    I like the idea of a weekly or even a monthly meet to help focus our efforts. Privacy issues aside (and they're significant), I'd suggest a Google+ Hangout. It'd make for a more intimate environment and we can showcase whatever we're working on.

    I'm too busy with life and some other hobby projects, on the biohacking field I'm gathering stuff and preparing to do the magnet implant procedure.
    Meetings are a nice idea, different timezones can be an issue, the only way to see how big it is, is to organize one :)

    About the IRC, the server hosts have been insanely unreliable so we're going through a lot of technical difficulties like services and domain resolution dropping. We're also using the downtown opportunity to change IRCD software. Things should be back to normal in a few weeks. For now you can use our backup domain wutnet.co.cc.

    Mumble server is being worked on. Will have more details soon.

    The server administrator (my partner) is currently preparing for a short-term international educational stay, so he's expecting to have it (Mumble) up and running sometime next week.

    Unfortunately, no. Mumble servers are apparently fairly complicated to set up (or so I've been told), so there wasn't enough time to bring it up between when he started and when he had to leave the country. He did do a fair portion of the required work, and he can still work on it remotely, but he doesn't have as much time to devote to it as he did. I will hopefully get to speak with him again today, though it may not be possible due to major time zone differences.

    For now, I would recommend we either find a temporary option for a server or find another outlet for discussion while this one is being brought online. 

    I'm sorry for the repeated delays, as I know everyone's eager to get things moving. I sure as hell am.
