Suturing the wound?

edited June 2012 in Magnets
I've spent the last hour or so trying to find some info on suture kits and the like, but my google-fu is weak. Anyone know what would be an appropriate size suture needle and what material/size the thread should be for stitching up after implantation?

  • Not suggesting anyone should do it like this(!), but I used:
    - random sewing needle (0,5mm) which I sharpened with a dremel
    - random sewing thread, even a very cheap one
I made sure it was all sterile before using it.
Mostly this worked, but only for a while, then the thread kinda pulled out, tearing through the skin. I don't know if it was due to the thread being to thick/thin or just the sutures being to close to the cut and therefor not having enough skin to "hold on to"
I've read, that you should be able to get the proper medical stuff from pharmacies. Maybe a cover story like "I have to practice for my exams" would help.
  • if you need an excuse i'd rather suggest you tell them you go on a 2 week survival trip and just want to be prepared, just in case shit hits the fan.
you could also ask local docs and vets, some may be more cooperative than others. and you may even be able to ask for some advice on using that stuff.
